Nature has always been a significant influence throughout my life, particularly bird related imagery and organic natural forms. Captured by the beauty and essence of their character, the species stimulate a spiritual regeneration within my work.

As a bird nurtures and guards her young the forms evoke a sense of protection. The nesting images are seen as physical boundaries functioning as a sacred refuge. Within this realm, a spiritual energy envelopes new growth which is in a state of continuous change and development.

Visual elements of space and color are a means of communicating my thoughts and perceptions. Spatial variations are achieved through additive and subtractive means, producing a protective network of dense layered surfaces. Colors and textures appear as pure as in their natural state. A heavenly sense emanates from the bright reflective surfaces (lusters) and embodies the idea of spiritual growth.

The process of creating these images requires months to complete. They undergo several firings of textured glazes and lusters. A combination of materials are used including low earthenware, glazes, lusters, ceramic stains and paint, metals and gems.
